San Angelo ISD joined the City Council and Mayor Brenda Gunter to celebrate San Angelo ISD educators as she issued a proclamation formally declaring April 19, 2024 as the “SAISD Difference Maker Day” in San Angelo.
“San Angelo Independent School District educators and staff impact the future of San Angelo daily – through their care for, and dedication and commitment to, the children of our city,” Mayor Gunter read from the proclamation during the City Council meeting on April 2. “Their impact happens from the moment a child steps on a bus, walks through the school door, is fed a nourishing breakfast and lunch, and throughout the day until the last bell, and beyond. Educators and the entire SAISD team make a difference in each child’s life, and with more than 13,000 students, this is an incredible impact on our community.”
Community leaders, citizens, members of the SAISD Board and SAISD administrators attended the City Council meeting and joined to recognize and honor SAISD staff.
“We recognize that teachers are the center of the wheel – We are here to support the teachers,” said Dr. Christopher Moran, SAISD Superintendent of Schools. “But every staff [member] is a molder of dreams. We are so thankful to make a difference in children’s lives. It’s a calling; it's a mission field and we believe in it.”
“At SAISD they often say, “Our people make the difference,” and today we honor the San Angelo Difference Makers, those who inspire and prepare our students and support their hopes and dreams,” said Mayor Gunter.
At the same City Council meeting, San Angelo ISD celebrated another proclamation as Mayor Gunter officially proclaimed April as "Month of the Military Child". The “Month of the Military Child” is a time to recognize and applaud military families and their children for the daily sacrifices and the challenges they overcome. San Angelo ISD has approximately 500 military-connected children and is home to three Purple Star Campuses.
